Overview
Melanotan-2 is a synthetic analog of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH) that stimulates melanogenesis for skin tanning. It also affects appetite suppression and sexual function through melanocortin receptor activation.
How It Works
Melanotan-2 binds to melanocortin receptors MC1, MC3, MC4, and MC5. MC1R activation stimulates melanocytes to produce melanin for tanning. MC3R/MC4R activation affects appetite regulation and sexual arousal. Effects are non-selective across these receptors.
